The fish is a symbol of movement representing free, fast and sensual like a woman.
The houses relate to the responsibility a woman has with her house in whatever moment.
The Harlequin has the particular characteristic to smile all through sadness.
The Moon is the maternity aspect present in a woman’s life.
The symbol on the left (under the house) represents lighting.
The star represents the quality woman has making a difference between women.

About the Artist

Martha Jiménez

Martha Jimenez Perez is one of the most important representatives of Contemporary Cuban Art; remarkable sculptor, ceramicist and painter. She has participated in more than 250 personal and collective exhibitions, and in 1997 she was awarded the UNESCO prize for “Best set of Works”.

Among her many recognitions, we note the prize “Hands” (Manos), from the Cuban Association of Artisan Artists (ACAA) ; the international prize in the 2nd Biennale of Contemporary Art, in Shanghai, China, and the UNEAC prize for the “Sculpture Ensemble at the Plaza del Carmen”. She is an active member of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA).

She has a special work in Turkey, where she made 3 monumental sculptures, 2 of them are installed in public spaces in the city of Eskisehir. In Cuba her work has been endorsed with the distinction “Fidelio Ponce de Léon”, “Espejo de Paciencia”, for National Culture and “For Pedagogical Merit”.

Her works are exhibited in numerous museums and galleries around the world: in Canada, Chile, Mexico, France, the United States, the Dominican Republic, among others.
